Secondary Operations

Almost no stamped part ships straight off the press. What happens between the press and the box is where schedules are usually lost, because most shops send that work outside.

Every hand-off to an outside vendor is a freight leg, a queue in somebody else's shop, and a conversation about whose fault it was when the parts come back wrong. The list below is what we do ourselves.

In house

• Machining — on a Brother Speedio R450X1 machining center, plus Fadal vertical machining centers in the tool room. For the one feature on a part that stamping cannot hold tightly enough.
• Welding — MIG and TIG, spot welding on a Taylor Winfield with digital control, and robotic welding on a Wolf cell for repeatable production weldments.
• PEM and stud insertion — a Haeger 618 insert press, so a part that needs pressed-in hardware leaves here finished.
• Deburring and cleaning — two Gemini 700 roto-finish tumble deburring machines and a parts drying machine.
• Assembly — riveting, fastening and sub-assembly, so you can buy a finished item rather than a bag of components.

Managed outside

Plating and painting are done by finishers we have worked with for years, and managed by us. You deal with one supplier and one purchase order, and the responsibility for the finished part stays here rather than being split between two companies who have never spoken.

Finishes to MIL spec where the print calls for them: anodize, hard anodize, black oxide, chem film, chrome, electroless nickel, gold and nickel plating.

Packaging and stocking

We will build a program around how you actually order — inventory, packaging, labeling and shipping, so parts land when your line needs them. For customers who want it, that includes holding stock and releasing against a schedule rather than shipping the whole run at once.
