Maintaining the shape of sheet metal when fabricating is usually critical. When bent in a press brake or roll bending machines such as press brakes, it can easily deform into undesired directions. To avoid such deformation, metal fabricators should take note of the following tips.
Identify grain direction
Grain direction affects the quality and consistency of the folding process. Bending sheet metal along the grain increases the risk of cracking, leading to deformation. Therefore, it is always best to bend the sheets across the grain.
Positions of holes
Putting a hole next to a bend affects the sheets stretching properties. This can result in deformation. As such, always ensure holes are at least three times the material thickness.
